Wine review by Great Northwest Wine!

Whiskey Hill Winery 2017 Maréchal Foch, Willamette Valley, $29

By Great Northwest Wine on March 17, 2019

Chris Helbling and his in-laws launched Postelwait’s Vineyards along the emerging Mount Hood Territory Wine Trail in conjunction with regulations for their popular wedding business in Canby, Ore. While those 15 acres of estate vines are coming on line, Helbling leaned his friend Jason Hanson of nearby Hanson Vineyards for this lot of grapes. Some stem inclusion and light touch of French oak adds some complexity not often found in this French hybrid making for a theme of blueberry, toast, white chocolate and horehound. Sandy tannins and a tasty finish of cranberry and pomegranate give it balance.

Rating: Excellent

Production: 18 cases

Alcohol: 13.5%

"4. Whiskey Hill Winery 2015 White Pinot Noir: This nearly clear Pinot Noir has just a kiss of pink, aromas of antique roses, dried cherries and pomegranate skin, and flavors of rainier cherries, citrus and hints of baking spice. The wine has vibrant acidity and a crisp finish, $25, available at the tasting room, 29510 S Barlow Road, Canby, 503-974-7143, whiskeyhillwinery.com."
